Yes, pricking yourself with a sharp needle does hurt; however, it is not as painful as breaking your arm. Piercings by nature only last 1 second when done by a skilled piercer, so the pain is short-live and mildly uncomfortable at most! In Addition, everyone feels pain differently, a piercing that one person finds dreadful may be totally painless for their friend, and vice versa! Don't let "pain" scare you out of getting the piercing you truly want!!!
That is a very personal decision. It should be your choice to get the piercing, you are the one that has to live with it, you should choose where it goes.
The whole "gay"/"straight" side thing was a trend for male ear piercings during the 80's and does NOT extend past that. The only thing that makes you gay or straight is you sexual orientation. If someone says that you got your piercing on the "gay side" they are misinformed and please correct them!
This is a VERY broad question. If you refer to my after care page you will find average healing times. I say average because everyone heals differently. Some people naturally have awesome immune systems and heal very easily and quickly, while others take longer and have a rougher time. A lot depends on your over all health as well as how you care for your piercing.
This is still a topic of much debate. I say no! In my own personal experience they more a piercing is played with or touched the harsher it tends to heal. Everytime you spin the jewelry you drag sharp debris through that healing skin which may tear it. It is like constantly picking a scab, it will never heal and can possibly get worse. Your skin CANNOT mesh with the metal in your piercing, trust me if it could I'd have tried it already. Letting it "stick" to the jewelry will not hurt you. If you absolutely must turn it, please make sure to wash your hands well with an antibacterial soap prior to touching the piercing and also wash the jewelry, carefully removing any dried discharge before you spin it.
I wish I had a dollar for how many times I hear this question in a day!! Piercings go through may stages during the entire healing process. They DO puss, they DO get crusty, they DO get red (especially when there new), they WILL be sore on and off during the ENTIRE healing process. This IS normal. You can go 5 months with an awesome navel piercing, bump it on the kitchen counter and then within the next week your "healed" piercing looks totally repulsive. Even totally healed piercings will give you trouble from time to time. Minor redness, puss, or crust is no reason for alarm. If you still do have a question regarding the state of your piercing, consult your piercer in person to know for sure.
This "bump" or "tittie" is one of two things. It can simply be Hypertorphic Scar Tissue or it can be a Keloid.
Keloid: a specific kind of fibrous— most people make the mistake of assuming that all piercing-related scarring is keloiding. Keloids are more likely to occur in those with black and/or asian genetics. Keloid scars can extend well past the edges of the original wound/scar and tend to be darker in color than hypertrophic scars. For more info follow this link to www.bmezine.com
Hypertrophic Scar Tissue: heavy scarring that appears around a piercing or other wound. The main reason that they're different from keloid scars is that you can make them go away (they are also slightly lighter in color and do not extend past the original scar). Most people — including many piercers — will mistakenly call all scars keloids when in fact hypertrophic scarring is more common. Hypertrophic scars both go away with treatment, and with time. Treatments include -reducing steroid injections or topical creams, as well as other methods such as silicone sheet pressure and natural methods. For more info follow this link to www.bmezine.com
I am a firm believer in the original meaning of tipping. Tips should be earned and not required. Generally anytime someone provides you a service and he/she does a good job you should at least offer a tip! If you someone does an EXCEPTIONAL job then the tip should be larger and consequently if they do a horrible job, little or no tip should be given. If your piercer does his job properly, a tip is a great way to say "thanks for hookin it up!" and if he does an awesome job make sure to really show him how much you appreciate his great talent, give him a little more!
